Animated GIF

An animated GIF is much like a flip book. Different images are displayed in a sequence, which give the appearance of movement

JPEG

A set of standards and a file format for the compression of digital colour images

Pixel

The smallest element of an image

BMP

Microsoft windows bitmap format. This is the only graphics format in which compression enlarges the file

Flip

 Flipping an object on one of it's axis. This produces one image that is alike the original

Video Card

A card which generates and outputs images to a display

Crop

To cut short

Mirror

An image as it would appear as viewed in a mirror, with right and left reversed. The end result is two pictures

Frames Per Second (FPS)
The unit for measuring the frame rate of a moving image

Frame
One of the continuous pictures on a strip of film

Morph
When the subject changes appearance. Either gradually, or instantaneously

(The Brain) Central Processing Unit (CPU)
The key component of a computer, which has the circuts that are necessary to interpret and execute program instructions

Dots Per Inch (DPI)
A way to measure the resolution of printed text and pictures. The more dots per inch - the higher the resolution

Resolution
The maximum amount of pixels that can be displayed on a monitor.

File Extension
A portion of the file's name, after the final point, which shows the kind of data stored in the file. Examples below


Compression
The reduction of the storage space required for data by changing it's format

Frame Buffer
A section of a video system where an image is stored, pixel by pixel. A frame buffer is also used to refresh a raster image

Colour Depth (Bits Per Pixel)
The number of bits of information stored in each  pixel of an image. If there are more bits, this means that more colours can be represented. A higher number of bits means that it will take much more of the computer's memory to store and display the image
